Southwest Train has a direct route from London Waterloo to Bournemouth. There are 2 trains per hour and the journey to and from London takes about 2 hours.
Please be aware that there is very little price difference between single and return tickets. If you are not sure if you will need to use the return part or your ticket, it may be worthwhile to buy a return ticket anyway.
Trains arriving in London weekdays before 10:00am (peak period) are very expensive and will cost you up to GBP 85 (in second class). After this your ticket will be about half price.
If you travel and return on the same day, you can save money by order a "Day Return" It will cost you about GBP 45 for a day return to London. If you book in advance you can cut down the cost to GBP 26.
